These are challenging times for Nigeria. Murders and ritual killings. Deception in high places. Celebrated mediocrity. Grinding Poverty. Lawlessness. Unjust weights. etc.

It appears all bad news. But thank God, the Bible tells us that when things are this dark, God can still do something. 2Ch 7:14.

He has done it before. In Exodus 2:23-25, the children of Israel cried to God and He heard their groaning, remembered his covenant with Abraham, with Isaac, and with Jacob and He heard them.

Even today, because of you and I, God will be merciful to Nigeria in Jesus’ name!

So what can God do for Nigeria in the middle of this darkness?

  1. God can still answer the prayers of His people

Again and again, the Bible tells us that when we children of God pray, He answers.

Ps 50:15 says ‘Call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver you, and you shall glorify me.’

Can you imagine what would happen if every church, every Christian prayed for nothing else for a month, but for Nigeria? God will surely hear from heaven and fight for His people!

Today, most of us do not pray for Nigeria anymore. We pray for husbands, wives, children, jobs, businesses, visas, church growth and financial breakthroughs. But we hardly pray for Nigeria. Some have even said we don’t need prayer, but we need to join politics or take to the streets.

Yet 2 Corinthians 10:3-4 says, ‘Though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh: (4) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.’

If we exercise our weapon of prayer, God can and will answer the prayer of His children!

2. God can heal Nigeria

Whenever God wants to heal, He always goes to the root. A root is the foundation of a tree. And the Bible says if the foundation is destroyed, what can the righteous do?

No matter how much you prosper, as long as Nigeria (your root) is diseased, it will affect you in one way or the other.

A root can also be the head of something. For example, in your family tree, the head of the family is your root. Abraham was the root of Isaac and Jacob, that is why they prospered.

There can be no healing without purging. If we pray, God will purge Nigeria of evil roots in Jesus’ name!

Why must I pray for Nigeria’s healing?

  1. Many testimonies are held up because Nigeria has problems.

Many men are not married because of financial problems. Many homes are unsettled or even broken because of how difficult it is to make a good living. Many children may be badly brought up because of the absence of the parents and lack of quality education. Many criminals today are angry products of the oppression in the land.

2. Pray for Nigeria so that you can be part of what God will do in the new Nigeria.

Ps. 122:6  Pray for the peace of Jerusalem: they shall prosper that love thee.

What then must we do so that God will answer and heal Nigeria?

  1. Humble yourself

For the person living in sin, this means to turn away from your sins. Acts 3:19, ‘Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord.’

For the person who claims to be a Christian, this means to serve others. 1Jn 3:16

If you want God to hear our prayers, we must all decide to follow Jesus and begin to serve others.

2. Pray

God says Pray and I will answer. Very few of us have time to really pray now. We’d rather work hard. And then we discover that the harder we work, the more unpleasant life becomes.

If we want God to heal this nation, we must PRAY (Mat 7:7-8)

3. Seek the Lord

If we will get God’s attention, we His children must decide to seek Him first above all. (Matt 6:33.)

God has said, if we seek Him with everything we have, we will find Him.

If Nigeria will change, we must be clear in our intentions that we are ready to forsake any attractions and promotions of this world, that will keep us from making Jesus a priority.

4. Turn from your wicked ways

To get God’s attention to heal this nation, you and I must begin to obey God fully. If we have little compromises and lies in our lives, we cannot expect God to move in our lives (2 Cor 10:6).

Let all those who are true children of God turn from our wicked ways and sins and ask God for mercy.

And He will surely answer in Jesus’ name!

Decide today to know and follow God’s word, and He will bless you in all areas of your life in Jesus’ name! You can make that decision by praying as follows:

Lord Jesus, I want to know you personally. Thank you for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life to ask you to come in as my Saviour and Lord. Take control of my life. Thank you for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal. Make me the kind of person you want to be.’
