The Blessed Life
Gen 1:27-31
The first thing God did after creating mankind was to bless us. Why? There are two major forces that control the life we live: Blessings and Curses. In Matthew 5:2 -12, Jesus Christ teaches us repeatedly about the Blessed Life. Blessings are very powerful. They separate the quality of one life from the other. Deuteronomy 28:1-14 says curses are also very negatively powerful.
So, what exactly is a Blessed Life?
A Blessed Life is a Life God has blessed
God is the Source of authentic blessings. Pro 10:22 says “The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, and He adds no sorrow with it.” Man may bless you but it has its limits. Many people who relied on another man’s blessing without God in the picture are today in a snare. When God blesses you, He blesses you all round. Gen 24:1 says, “And Abraham was old, and well advanced in age; and the LORD had blessed Abraham in all things.”
I pray that from today, God will begin to bless you in all areas of your life in Jesus’ name.
When God blesses you, you become free from curses. God’s original blessings have the power to destroy curses no matter the source. Abraham came from a family where a curse or two were in operation. In Gen 11: 31-32, his father, Terah died before he could reach his destination. He stopped to rest along the way but he never left Haran, the stopover spot. One of his brothers, Lot’s father also died young.
One of the evidences of a curse is that what limited/stopped a father or mother or brother or sister, becomes manifest in the life of a person. For example, a lady who leaves her husband when her own daughter is the same age as she was when her mother left clearly shows a curse is in operation.
I pray that whatever limited or is limiting your family will be broken in your life in Jesus’ name!
Not only was the curse of uncompleted projects operating in Abraham’s life, there was also the curse of barrenness. Abraham was 75 years old and he had no child. It was apparently his wife, Sarah who couldn’t have a child. His brother, Nahor also could not have children. We know of course that Isaac- Abraham’s only son also had delays in child-bearing.
But one day, after Abraham entered a covenant with God, the curse of barrenness was broken in his life and he went on to have 6 more children besides Isaac.
I am praying that from today, every curse in your life will be broken in Jesus’ name!
When God blesses you, you become a carrier of God’s blessings to others. God wants us to be carriers of His own kind of blessing. Not every blessing is from God. Some of God’s blessings include salvation, discipleship, healing, deliverance, word of wisdom, word of knowledge etcetera.
There are some of us who have had people around us for many years. We bless them but not with God’s kind of blessing. We are like the fig tree in Matt. 21:18-20, that has many leaves but has no fruit.
When you are truly blessed by God, your very life will challenge and draw people to follow you to Jesus.
Act 4:13 “Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marvelled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.”
Because Abraham was blessed, Lot and his family were delivered from Sodom and Gomorrah. Because Abraham was blessed, his brother, Nahor who could not have a child also began to have children. Gen. 22:20 “Now it came to pass after these things that it was told Abraham, saying, “Indeed Milcah also has borne children to your brother Nahor…”
I pray that God will bless you today and make you a mighty spiritual blessing in Jesus’ name!
How then can I begin to live the blessed life?
- Respond to God’s Invitation
One of the blessings of God’s Word is that, what worked 2000 years ago, still works today. God is no respecter of persons. All who accept Him and faithfully do His will always enjoy His blessings.
Hebrews 13:8 says, “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
In Gen. 12:1-3, God called Abraham out of his accursed life and he followed God. From that day on, he began to go from blessing to blessing.
Deut. 30:19 “I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;”
Any life that is lived outside a personal relationship with Jesus as Lord or that is neither here nor there, is a life under a curse.
Choose the blessed life today!
- Enter a Covenant with Jesus
In Gen. 17:1-8, After Abraham began to follow God fully, God established a covenant with him. Simply, walk before me and be blameless And I will be YOUR GOD. Live transparently before me. No excuses.
As a reminder of the covenant, God asked that Abraham and all men in his house be circumcised. Today, God is also reminding us of the covenant in the blood of Jesus. Reminding us that Jesus already paid for our sins. We cannot afford to continue in sin. Continuing in disobedience to God will bring you under a curse faster than any devil can harm you.
Examine yourself. Are there traces of a curse? Are you truly living a blessed life? Invite Jesus to come into your life right now. Go ahead, invite Him and begin to live the blessed life today!
